After a colorful career raising three children, I returned to school and completed my undergraduate degree in Psychology. Working in several internships with troubled teens, I wondered if there wasn't a way to reach young parents with helpful information that might prevent this heartache for families. That led to my enrolling in the Santa Barbara Graduate Institute, where I earned my PhD in Prenatal and Perinatal Psychology. During the course of my research on parent-child bonding, I was captivated by parents' stories. The parents were excited to talk about their experiences and I found that their stories were diverse, unique, compelling - and fundamentally universal. Last year, when I was introduced to PostSecret, I immediately knew that I wanted to create a forum in which parents could share their parenting wisdom. Because I have always been drawn to art as a way of self-expression, I thought postcard art would be an exciting way for parents to share their experiences, and for me to discover more ways we can assist young families. The project blossomed, and I am excited to offer a place for people to share many of their unique life experiences with others. In the past five years I have assisted families as a prenatal and perinatal therapist, coach, and educator, counseled families in a crisis pregnancy center, and taught prenatal and early parenting classes. I am passionate about supporting new families in their transition to parenthood, and offering support for all people on their journey through life.
